How to use your NDIS funding to help achieve your travel and holiday goals.

The option to travel is an opportunity for everyone - regardless of ability.  The NDIS is there to support you to do whatever you set out to do - including going on a holiday.

We speak with Yann and Peter, two Kinora experts on supported travel, to learn about how they have facilitated NDIS participants to use their NDIS funding to achieve their goals - whether it is travel or otherwise.

Key Points:

  • Is it always best to talk to your Plan Manager/ LAC about what you are planning to claim and to ensure that sufficient funds are there, or are put aside to achieve your holiday AND to continue to provide you with your normal supports, throughout the rest of your plan

  • Travel does not have to be a goal in your plan for you to access funding for a trip. Line items such as social and community participation can be claimed. It is best to share your NDIS goals and see where they can fit appropriately.

  • There are always out of pocket expenses to the participant when going on a holiday. This is normal and to be expected. NDIS Funds are there to access the supports you need when you are away.

If you have any questions about accessing travel & NDIS budget questions, log into or sign up for Kinora -our NDIS community, including our supported travel experts, are here to help.
