NDIS Plans to include shorter funding periods

From May 19, 2025, the NDIS is changing how funding is delivered in plans. Instead of receiving your full 12 month budget at once, funding will now be released in smaller amounts over time, usually every three months.

This change is part of updates to Section 33 of the NDIS Act. It’s designed to help participants manage their budgets more easily, reduce the risk of overspending, and improve financial planning, but will mean budgeting becomes more important.

  • Since October 2024, all new and reassessed plans have been set to run for 12 months.

  • Now, from May 19, 2025, those plans will start using shorter funding periods.

  • You’ll still get the same total amount of funding, just spread out over the year in instalments.

  • This only applies when you get a new or updated plan. If your current plan is still active, nothing changes until your next reassessment.
